Clinician Spotlight: Dr. Shelly Bar

What is your current role? Adolescent and Young Adult Eating Disorder Specialist 

What is your background? Internal Medicine and Adolescent Medicine Physician

How would you describe yourself? I am a warm, honest, and passionate clinician. 

What is your favorite thing about your career?  My favorite part about my career is being able to make an impact and change the course of a patients’ life. 

How did you get involved with eating disorder recovery?  I got involved in eating disorder recovery when I trained and worked as an Adolescent Medicine clinician at Stanford Medical Center. 

What is your proudest accomplishment (personal or occupational)? My proudest accomplishment is my family and completing my adolescent medicine fellowship at Stanford.

What is something people do not know about you? I love singing when I am alone in the car

If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be? The path may be long and windy but in the end, it all works out.

 

More about Dr. Shelly Bar: Dr. Bar is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Stanford University Medical School. She carries a subspeciality degree in Adolescent Medicine from Stanford. Dr. Bar completed her Eating Disorder and Young Adult Specialty at Stanford’s Lucille Packard Hospital and through experience on the eating disorder unit at El Camino Hospital. Dr. Bar developed protocol at Facebook Wellness Center for young adults managing the medical effects of their eating disorders and supported her patients in treating depression and anxiety. She currently works with university students at Stanford Vaden Health Center. Dr. Bar’s passion is in supporting her patients to effectively address the medical complications of eating disorders and disordered eating.
