- What is your current job title? Executive Director
- What are your current educational credentials? I have a degree in me.
- What inspired you to become a clinician in the field of eating disorder treatment? There is a staggering amount of people living with type 1 diabetes who struggle with insulin omission and other eating-disordered behaviors. However, very few resources and accessible support options exist for this unique community. The country’s healthcare system lacks proper screening tools, and we are sorely in need of education geared towards providers who work with the type 1 diabetes population. I will change that.
- Tell us about your journey as a clinician from your first role to your current role. We Are Diabetes is a nonprofit organization primarily devoted to supporting people living with type 1 diabetes who struggle with disordered eating. WAD offers private coaching, education, and referrals to credible providers and treatment centers across the US. Over the past 11 years, I’ve developed numerous resources designed specifically for the ED-DMT1 (co-occurring type 1 diabetes and an eating disorder) community and for concerned loved ones. I’ve also established the first mentorship program, which offers free peer support to anyone living with type 1 diabetes.
- What do you currently see as the greatest barriers to eating disorder treatment and recovery? Insurance, lack of education and resources available within the clinic setting, and lack of screening tools.
- What is your proudest moment as an eating disorder clinician? I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing incredible growth, resilience and determination in every person I’ve worked with.
- What do you or your clients love most about MyClearStep? Simple and safe.
- What has changed since adding MyClearStep to your practice? More honest conversations.
- What advice would you give to those considering a career in eating disorder treatment? Take care of yourself before every client session. Every single day.
- What are some of your passions and hobbies outside of work? Fixing things around the house, adoring my cats, and creating problem-solving.
