Clinician Spotlight Featuring Cristal Medina

  • What is your current job title? Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
  • What are your current educational credentials? I hold a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in nutrition.
  • What inspired you to become a clinician in the field of eating disorder treatment? Long ago, I struggled with my own relationship with food, body, and movement. My healing changed my life. I have a strong passion for helping others heal.
  • Tell us about your journey as a clinician from your first role to your current role. I have grown so much throughout my years of doing this work. My clients have been my greatest teachers. Trainings and educational materials have also been helpful, but my clients have left the biggest impact on who I am and how I work.
  • What do you currently see as the greatest barriers to eating disorder treatment and recovery? I believe one of the biggest barriers to ED treatment is access. There are many individuals who cannot find or afford treatment. Furthermore, some go unnoticed in their ED due to stereotypes/bias and/or lack of information/awareness, among other reasons.
  • What is your proudest moment as an eating disorder clinician? My proudest moment is opening my own insurance-based practice to increase access to ED treatment.
  • What do you or your clients love most about MyClearStep? I love how easy it is! Much easier than other blind weight options I have tried in virtual care.
  • What has changed since adding MyClearStep to your practice? I get more consistent weigh-ins and am better able to track weight trends.
  • What advice would you give to those considering a career in eating disorder treatment? Do it with an open heart and mind 🙂
  • What are some of your passions and hobbies outside of work? I love being in nature! I enjoy backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, camping, skating, doing yoga, and trying new outdoor activities.
